ActionSA Notes the Promises by New, Chinese, Investors to Kick-start the Lily Mine Container Retrieval Process within 2 months
Herman Mashaba
ActionSA President
ActionSA acknowldges the 23 July visit by the Lily Mine Business Rescue Practitioner, Robert C. Devereux, to the bereaved families of the Lily Mine 3 – Yvonne Mnisi, Pretty Nkambule, and Solomo Nyerende – in Barberton. We reconise the importance of direct engagement with the families affected by the tragic incident, and we commend the efforts to provide clarity and reassurance during this difficult time.
ActionSA hopes, however, that the promises made to the families – specifically that work to retrieve the container housing the remains of the three miners will commence within the next two months – will be fully honored and that the process is carried out with the utmost urgency, transparency, and respect for the familes.
At the same time, ActionSA reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all avenues are pursued to facilitate a swift and professional recovery operation. We will therefore continue our ongoin processes to prepare bids and formally invite qualified mine rescue practitioners to submit proposals to carry out the container retrrieval. This is to ensure that the work we have already begun is not stopped by mere promises made by others and that the best possible expertise and resources are mobilised for this critical task.
ActionSA stands firmly with the Lily Mine families and the broader community of Barberton and will persistently advocate for accountability, proper action, and closure for those affected by the Lily Mine tragedy.
