ActionSA Requests Meeting With Justice Minister To Fast Track Whistleblower Protection Legislation By Year End

ActionSA has today written to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, requesting an urgent meeting to fast-track legislation that protects and incentivises whistleblowers through Parliament.

At the beginning of this year, ActionSA announced our Fallen Whistleblowers Bill, which seeks to amend the Public Procurement Act to enhance protections for whistleblowers, introduce meaningful incentives, and enable private prosecutions to ensure accountability where the State fails to act.

We welcome the Minister’s announcement today of proposed amendments to the Protected Disclosures Act, which draw directly from ActionSA’s proposals by similarly strengthening protections and introducing incentives for whistleblowers.

ActionSA has formally requested a meeting with the Minister to chart a clear way forward and ensure alignment between these proposals, with the shared goal of fast-tracking this critical legislation through Parliament before the end of the year.

South Africa cannot afford further delays. We must act decisively to ensure that we never again have to mourn the loss of brave whistleblowers such as Babita Deokaran.
