ActionSA Welcomes Arrest of Tembisa Hospital Employee and Recovery of Over R13 Million

ActionSA welcomes the arrest of Mr Zacharia Tshisele, an employee at Tembisa Hospital, for alleged corruption. This arrest follows an extensive SIU investigation into procurement irregularities at the hospital which identified 15 officials as involved in looting at the hospital.

The SIU uncovered evidence that Mr Tshisele received unlawful gratification from various service providers at the hospital between 01 January 2020 and 01 September 2023. In April 2025, the SIU referred the matter to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) for criminal prosecution and asset recovery.

In November, the accused returned R13 530 904.27 of the R122,228,000.00 reported, through the Special Investigating Units interim report, to have been corrupt payments made to officials and employees of the Gauteng Department of Health (GDOH) and Tembisa Hospital.

ActionSA believes that public service is a calling meant to selflessly serve society, not rob communities for self-serving purposes and calls for the speedy prosecution of all those fingered in abusing the public purse.
