ANC Collude to Protect Illegal Foreigners and Lawlessness in eThekwini

During today’s eThekwini Council meeting, we tabled a motion calling for the establishment of a specialised task team within the Metro Police to deal specifically with the crisis of illegal foreigners fuelling drugs, hijacked buildings, and illegal trading. We further called for collaboration with SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs to ensure effective enforcement of our laws.

Shamefully, the ANC, with the clear support of the IFP hijacked and gutted our motion through an amendment. This was not an honest amendment, but a deliberate act to strip our proposal of its substance and render it meaningless. The Speaker bulldozed our objections and forced the ANC’s changes through, showing blatant disregard for democratic process.

The ANC’s amendment was a clear display of dishonesty in the process. As ActionSA, we only welcomed the amendment brought forward by the EFF to not make this task team exclusively fight against illegal foreigners that commit crime, it also the general public, because it added real value to the motion.

We must ask: what exactly do the ANC and IFP stand to gain from protecting illegal foreigners? Their actions went above and beyond to weaken a motion that sought to restore law and order in our city.

While the motion was approved by council, we are not convinced it will achieve its true intentions under the distortions forced by the ANC and IFP.

It has become abundantly clear that the ANC and IFP are working hand in glove to protect illegal foreigners and lawlessness in eThekwini. By colluding to weaken our motion, they have demonstrated that their political interests come before the safety and well-being of residents.

Even more alarming, an ANC councillor revealed that a so-called Metro Police task team already exists, which is information only disclosed today. This raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and whether residents are being misled while crime and lawlessness flourish.

ActionSA rejects these political games. While the ANC and IFP collude to defend criminality, we will continue to stand firmly with the people of eThekwini who deserve safe communities, clean governance, and a government that prioritises the rule of law.
