The Provincial Chairperson

Dear Actioneers,

With mixed feelings of sadness and gratitude, ActionSA Gauteng accepted the resignation of one of its longest serving members, Emma More, as Joburg Regional Chairperson. Emma joined the party whilst it was still in its inception during the People’s Dialogue and served in various positions even after its formation.

I would like to thank Emma for her immense contributions to the growth of ActionSA and wish her all the best moving forward. She remains a committed member of ActionSA and currently serves as Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Likewise, I would also like to express my gratitude to the entire Regional Executive Committee with whom she served.

In the same breath, I would like to congratulate Nobuhle Mthembu, who serves as the Speaker of the CoJ Council, on her new appointment as the new Regional Chairperson of Joburg.

I would also like to congratulate the members of the new Regional Executive Committee on their new appointments to serve the biggest Region of ActionSA. With their collective experience, skills and commitment, I am certain that the party will reach new heights.

As part of ensuring engagements within the communities we serve, ActionSA Gauteng MPLs are conducting Listening Tours throughout the Province. The objective of these Listening Tours is to get first-hand information on challenges facing our communities, so that we can escalate them to the relevant departments for speedy resolutions.

To our members and supporters, your continued commitment to fixing South Africa is greatly appreciated. Please do remember to re-register on the new ActionSA membership system. Membership booklets have also been distributed to regions, to assist members who prefer to pay their membership fees in cash. The work of rebuilding our branches has begun.

Update from the Regions

EKURHULENI

ActionSA Member of Parliament and Member of the Transport Portfolio Committee, Malebo Kobe MP conducted an oversight visit with Ekurhuleni Regional Chairperson Phillip Dolo at Daveyton Train Station on Monday, 21 October, as part of October Transport Month.

While steadfast efforts to rehabilitate the rail system are underway, the sheer extent of the decay has left many residents living on the outskirts of the city with the burden of high transport costs. ActionSA is committed to ensuring that public transport is made accessible to all residents, and will keep working to ensure the rail system is affordable and reliable.

RANDWEST

Due to the pressure that ActionSA RandWest has exerted on Gauteng Provincial Government, the MEC for Human Settlements finally visited Bekkersdal to conduct oversight on incomplete projects.

Whilst this is a step in the right direction, we still believe that a comprehensive oversight of all incomplete projects needs to be conducted to determine the root cause of the challenges and address them.

Membership drives continue across the region, so as to ensure old members are re-registered on the new system and new members are added daily. A new Regional Executive Committee (REC) was appointed on 13 October 2024.

JOHANNESBURG

The new Regional leadership has hit the ground running with the swift implementation of membership drives across the region. A number of branches successfully renewed old members and registered new ones.

LESEDI

Membership drives were done in Ratanda and Silahliwe to ensure party growth in the Region. An oversight visit was conducted at the unfinished stadium and swimming pool at Ratanda Ext. 26. Progress on these public facilities has stalled and they have become white elephants in the community.

ActionSA will continue to monitor these projects and seek ways to put pressure on Gauteng Provincial Government, so as to hold them accountable for public spending.

EMFULENI

Emfuleni saw the appointment of a new Regional Executive Committee, with Bongani Dhlamini as the newly appointed Regional Chairperson. The membership drive at Evaton Mall was a great success.

MOGALE CITY

Membership drives have commenced, and two oversight visits were conducted in Munsieville where streetlights were stolen. The matter was escalated, and we will follow the situation until the streetlights are restored for residents.

Update from the Caucuses

PROVINCIAL

ActionSA Gauteng Caucus Leader Funzi Ngobeni responded to the clarion call of Coronationville residents, City of Johannesburg, who has been having water challenges for the past three weeks.

A meeting was held with community leaders and Section 79 Oversight Committee EISD Chairperson Vhengani Munyayi, to understand the issues residents faced.

ActionSA will not rest until the needs of the community of Coronationville are adequately addressed.

JOHANNESBURG

S79 Oversight Committee of Finance Chairperson Mpumi Edward conducted an oversight visit at City of Johannesburg stores, to ascertain whether the investment that was made into these stores was justified.

Revenue oversight visits were also conducted at Rabbie Ridge and Orange Farm.

Following the water crisis issue in Coronationville, the entire EISD committee visited the area together with the Speaker of Council and relevant MMC. The ongoing challenge of water around the area is due to Hurstill Reservoir not being operational due to leaking. Construction on another reservoir in Brixton is underway.

Public hearings with residents in the area will be conducted, and officials invited to present progress reports to the residents. ActionSA will continue updating residents on developments.

In an effort to fight against illegal occupation of property, especially within the inner cities, members of the Joburg Caucus accompanied property owners of 74 Jules to lay criminal charges against the alleged property hijackers at the Jeppe police station. As a party rooted in the rule of law, we will continue to chase up on the matter until law and order is restored.
