IEC Confirms Clerical Issue, ActionSA To Feature on Ballots

ActionSA, like many South Africans, was deeply concerned by a list of candidates published by the IEC yesterday that excluded our candidates.

Discussions with the IEC culminated this morning in the confirmation that a clerical issue had transpired on their side and that our submissions remain compliant.

It is imperative to note that ActionSA complied fully with both deadlines to make its submission of candidates and to pay all fees for the contestation of Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Newcastle and KwaDukuza.

ActionSA’s submissions included a candidate in every one of these wards and sufficient PR candidates to govern the municipalities in question. Our ability to meet these deadlines was assured by our first-of-its-kind candidate elections which saw communities electing our ward candidates as far back as the end of June this year.

ActionSA takes the communication from the IEC in good faith and has full confidence that the issue will be corrected and published in accordance with the undertakings we have received this morning from the IEC.

We remain focussed on the campaign, undistracted from the important work of taking our offer to every resident of the municipalities we are contesting.
