Introducing the Ikanye Wena Campaign: A New Dawn for Self-Reliance in the North West Province.

As we prepare for a new year, the ActionSA North West Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), under the visionary leadership of MPL Kgosi Kwena Mangope, is thrilled to announce the imminent launch of the Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign. This initiative aims to foster a culture of self-reliance and empowerment for every member of each community across all regions of the North-West Province. In other words, the Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign is not aimed at ActionSA members only.

Understanding the Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign

At the heart of the Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign philosophy lies a powerful Setswana folks message: “Mphe mphe o a lapisa, motho o kgonwa ke sa gagwe.” This translates to “Believe in yourself, believe in your own strength.”

“Our goal is to instil this belief in individuals and communities, encouraging them to take charge of their destinies and break free from the dependency culture that has persisted for over 30 years”

We believe that in order to fix the North West Province and South Africa at large, we must first fix ourselves as individuals by changing our mindset, because we cannot fix the country with the same mindset that destroyed it”, Says Rosemary

Goals and Objectives

The Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign is built on several key principles:

1. Skills Development and Personal Development: We seek to enhance self-esteem and empower individuals to change their circumstances through economic and educational initiatives.
2. Coordinating Community Developers: By uniting experienced community developers, we aim to create sustainable cooperatives and innovative income-generating projects.
3. Entrepreneurship and Economic Development: Our focus will be on uplifting women, youth, and people with disabilities, transitioning their projects from subsistence to export levels.
4. Self-Reliance: We envision all communities in the country that are self-sufficient and capable of addressing their own needs. As such you do not need to be an ActionSA member to participate in the Ikanye Campaign.
5. Innovation: Harnessing technology will be crucial in driving development and fostering creativity.

Specific Objectives

To achieve these goals, the Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign has outlined several objectives:

1. Instil the principle of self-reliance in communities,
2. Create platforms that support budding entrepreneurs and small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs),
3. Establish projects in each region, led by passionate local community leaders who understand community needs,
4. Promote innovation and creativity as cornerstones of sociology-economic development, and
5. Secure funding and resources to ensure the sustainability of these enterprises.

Envisaged Regional Projects

The Ikanye Wena Mindset Campaign will also define specific regional projects aimed at stimulating local economies. These projects will include:

(a). Attracting investors to reopen closed factories,

(b) Initiating community projects that enhance skills and create job opportunities,

(d) Upgrading school facilities to support educational advancement in digital literacy.

Measuring Success

The success of the Ikanye Campaign will hinge on our collective ability to achieve optimal results through collaboration and resource identification. Each region will be tasked with documenting their journey, ensuring transparency and accountability in our efforts.
