Mayor Moya Continues Cleaning Up DA’s Financial Mess with Over R2 Billion Eskom Settlement

Tshwane’s Eskom debt being reduced by over R2 billion further proves that Nasiphi Moya has pulled the City back from the brink and is now shaping it into a beacon of local government.

Upon assuming office, ActionSA’s Dr Nasiphi Moya took the proactive step of engaging Eskom to find a sustainable way forward on the capital’s historic debt. This debt was allowed to balloon under successive DA-led administrations, most notably under Cilliers Brink, with the City going from owing Eskom nothing in 2020 to owing a staggering R6.6 billion in 2024, all while continuing to collect electricity payments from residents.

Since coming into office in October 2024, Dr Nasiphi Moya’s government has reduced Tshwane’s Eskom debt from R6.66 billion to R4.73 billion.

This is just one way in which Tshwane’s finances have been jolted back to life.

The capital’s liquidity ratio has improved from 0.42 to 0.88, the number of findings for a qualified audit has been brought down from 6 to 2, and the City has secured R86 billion in pledged investments at Tshwane’s inaugural investment summit.

The DA’s persistent, desperate attempts to discredit Dr Moya’s record on finances is revealing. It is evident that their record is shambolic, that they broke Tshwane’s finances, and that they are now attempting to gaslight residents on the objective progress they see being made which threatens to continue exposing their flimsy governance record in Tshwane.

ActionSA will continue applauding and supporting Nasiphi Moya and her multi-party coalition’s work, because they are delivering the type of change which residents of our capital have been demanding.
