#OperationFixJoburg tour in Roodepoort puts forward Herman Mashaba’s plan to improve the living conditions of residents
Press Statement by Herman Mashaba
ActionSA Joburg Mayoral Candidate
Today, I led a door-to-door campaign and community engagement at Princess Clinic, Ward 71, Roodepoort and surrounding areas. This was an opportunity to learn about residents’ lived experiences, and outline ActionSA’s #OperationFixJoburg plan to restore dignity, safety, and reliable services.
Joburg residents have suffered years of neglect from the current administration, resulting in a broken system that fails to deliver basic services. Only ActionSA can bring it back on track.
Many residents recalled how they benefited from extended operating hours of clinics, which I launched at Princess Clinic during my tenure as the Mayor of Joburg. This intervention increased access to healthcare services, with clinics being open until 8pm during the week. Instead of the previous practice of closed clinics on weekends, they opened from 8am until 1pm. I am encouraged that they support my plan to finish what I started. They witnessed how I was steering the city in the right direction.
However, walking through the streets of Roodepoort depicted a city that has been forgotten by the ANC government. Residents are exposed to raw sewerage, poor road infrastructure that limits their mobility, and poor provision of sanitation services. Now more than ever, residents need strong leadership that will arrest the city’s decline.
I reminded residents of the power of their vote, should they give me the mandate to return as the Mayor of Joburg. A vote for ActionSA to govern the city is for South Africans to be prioritised for service delivery and opportunities. Operation Fix Joburg is that plan.
