Soon, ActionSA will do something that has never been done in South African political history – we will open our candidate selection processes to the public, allowing you to choose who will represent us on the ballot paper on Election Day.
We are doing this because we believe in a system of direct democracy where voters choose their representatives directly, instead of representatives being chosen by political parties. When parties decide on candidates, often what matters more is who candidates know, instead of who they want to serve. This inevitably results in loyalties lying with political parties and the leaders who selected candidates first, and the people of our country second.
We will soon open an online system to any registered South African voter to register as a voter in the ActionSA Candidate Elections, allowing them to participate in this process even if they are not a member of ActionSA.
Towards the end of May, the system will open for voting. Those who have registered to participate, will be able to vote online or at physical centres located around their municipality.
At the end of the process, the results will be audited, and the successful candidates announced. Those candidates will then represent ActionSA on the ballot paper in the Local Government Elections later this year.
Be amongst the first to be notified when registration opens, and be part of a ground-breaking move towards Direct Democracy in South Africa!
Please note: If you cannot find your municipality below, please understand that ActionSA has so far only resolved to contest the three Gauteng Metros in 2021. We are currently exploring the possibility of contesting further municipalities.
