ActionSA is pleased to inform South Africans that the young female police officer who was allegedly being sexually harassed by the Station Commander at Mashishing Police Station has now been approved for transfer to Eikenhoek as she had long been requesting. There she will be closer to her family and have access to much-needed community support.
Following her complaints, the young police officer was later kidnapped and left for dead in an unknown veld, thankfully she survived.
What remains to be seen is the steps that will now be taken to investigate the alleged actions of the Mashishing Station Commander. We are pleased that engagements with the SAPS and IPID have produced this result, but it cannot stop here. There must be a full investigation and consequences if found to be true.
We thank the Independent Police Investigations Directorate and SAPS leadership for their swift action in this matter.
ActionSA will work to identify cases where the women of our country are being subjected to such forms of gender-based violence. As an organisation, we will lead in the efforts to ensure that the women of our country are treated with respect both at home and in the workplace.
