The Real Test for Gauteng Is Whether Services Improve

ActionSA Gauteng has taken note of the Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s latest update, including the recent changes in the Executive Council. Political developments will always grab attention, but for residents across Gauteng, the issue is quite simple: are services working, and can people rely on them day to day?

Right now, many communities are still dealing with the same pressures from unreliable water supply, poor infrastructure maintenance, struggling municipalities, and ongoing safety concerns. These are not abstract policy debates. This is what people experience in their homes, on their streets, and in their daily lives.

Government has shared a number of updates and interventions. That’s noted. But the real question is not what is being announced but it’s what is actually being delivered, consistently, day after day.

Residents don’t experience government through statements or political changes. They experience it when clinics function properly, when communities feel safe, when infrastructure is maintained, and when municipalities respond to their needs, that’s where the focus should be.

We want to be clear about how we will approach these changes.

Firstly, ActionSA will judge this reshuffle on outcomes. If it leads to better service delivery, stronger governance and improved financial management, we will acknowledge that and support progress where it is visible.

Secondly, if these changes result in instability, policy inconsistency or a further decline in service delivery, we will not hesitate to hold the Premier and his Executive fully accountable.

ActionSA’s position remains straightforward and service delivery must come before politics. Public money must lead to real, visible improvements. Accountability must be clear and consistent.

As the budget and governance processes continue in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, ActionSA will continue to focus its oversight on whether government commitments are actually being implemented and whether residents are seeing real change on the ground.

Gauteng does not need more updates or political adjustments. It needs a government that delivers and delivers consistently.
