In response to over 30 inaccurate billing receipt complaints by residents of Tshwane amounting to over a million Rand, ActionSA led a picket this morning in protest of the City’s inaccurate billing system. Affected residents of Tshwane feel failed by the City’s collection department.
Contrary to the Executive Mayor Williams’ administration’s recently released statement claiming to have reduced the deficit by R3.4 billion attributed to the collection rate, ActionSA is in possession of receipts that prove that Tshwane’s finances have only improved on paper.
From where we sit, the DA-led municipality has lost control of its financial management and are now punishing poor residents of Tshwane for its shortcomings.
It is high time that the residents of Tshwane become alive to the fact that they no longer need to be beholden or stuck with a government that does not prioritise their needs.
For far too long have political parties blamed previous administrations for their failings to fulfil their mandates to society. Each one passes the buck onto the previous one. Well, this must stop!
ActionSA stands ready to provide an alternative to the broken political system that has failed South Africans. We are assembling a team of South Africans committed to public service and not service of political parties, who have the skills, experience, and knowledge to achieve our vision for a country that works for all its residents.
We will put measures in place that aim at assisting those who simply cannot afford high municipal bills, albeit on merit and usage.
To do this, we will conduct an audit of the indigent register to ensure that it comprises the rightful people who are deserving of government assistance.
We will ensure that services are delivered to communities across the lengths and breaths of Tshwane so that those who can afford to pay are encouraged to do so.
We will partner with relevant stakeholders to eliminate illegal connections throughout the City.
Residents are encouraged to come forward with their billing queries to implore the municipality to pursue a billing query open day. To do so will assist residents pursue a process of correcting inaccurate bills.
ActionSA will work tirelessly to build a more responsive, accountable, and caring administration in the City of Tshwane.
