Who is John Hlongwane?

John Hlongwane was born and raised in Newlands, Ga-Mashashane village. He is the first child of Sarah Hlongwane and James Hlongwane, who have four children.

He completed his matric at Mmanare High School, but unfortunately, he could not further his studies due to financial constraints.

John is married to Tebogo, together they have three children, Mahlatse (24), Bonolo (16) and Tshiamo (11). He is described as a humble, generous, honest, dedicated and sensitive man who has a big heart and puts his family first.

John currently works as a Stock Controller at a car dealership in Polokwane, a position he has held since 2014.

A seasoned politician

In 2010, John served as a Branch Treasurer for the ANC in Ward 10.

He was the ANC’s Ward Councillor Candidate for the 2011 Local Government Elections, and despite a successful campaign, the ANC appointed another candidate, whom he beat in the candidate selection process, as the Ward 10 Councillor.

The community of Ward 10 urged John to contest the 2021 Local Government Elections as an independent candidate, however, this did not materialise due to lack of resources. The EFF also approached him to be their Councillor Candidate for the ward, but he rejected the offer as the party does not align with his values.

He joined ActionSA in 2022, and on 27 November 2022, he was announced as the party’s Ward 10 Councillor Candidate for the upcoming by-elections to be held on 25 January 2022.

Why John chose ACTION

Following years of not trusting political parties that are not rooted in good ethics and sound political practices, John terminated his ANC membership and joined ActionSA.

According to John, ActionSA President Herman Mashaba’s discipline, honesty and firm stance on the influx of illegal immigrants inspired him to join ActionSA.

He has witnessed its devastating effects on communities and believes that ActionSA is the only party that can address this issue.

John is already working for you

John is a leader who is in touch with issues on the ground and is always ready to roll up his sleeves to be part of the solution.

He was instrumental in establishing the Makgofe Community Policing Forum to combat crime and lawlessness in the community. He has been leading the forum and because of this, crime has significantly decreased in Moletjie.

The community of Moletjie is constantly experiencing water shortages due to unreliable water supply from the municipality. As a result, John drilled a borehole in his home, which he shares with the community, to bring reliable water supply to the people of Moletjie at no cost.

Make John your
Ward Councillor

John has worked tirelessly to fight for Ward 10 residents despite not being a councillor. Make him the Ward 10 Councillor so that he can take the fight directly to Polokwane Municipality.
